You get paid on the 28th. By the 15th of next month, the money is gone and payday still feels far. If that sounds like you, you are not alone. The first step is to see the numbers.
Write down what you pay every month: rent, transport, chop (food), and bills such as data, light and water. Add them up. Divide the total by 30 to see what you spend in one day. Then divide your salary by that number. The answer is how many days your salary lasts.
Example: your costs are one third more than your salary. Your salary then lasts 22 days of a 30-day month. That leaves 8 days before payday with no money.
We made a free calculator for Accra workers. Type your salary and your four main costs. It shows how many days your salary lasts and the gap before payday, and gives you a card to share on WhatsApp. The numbers stay on your phone. Nothing you type is saved or sent.
